James leads from start to finish to seal victory

Castlewellan Forest Park in County Down played host to Round Five of the National Points Series Mountain Bike Race Hosted by Banbridge Cycling Club.

The course started in front of the castle and used the adjoining forest utilizing natural trails, fire roads and official trail centre trails.

In the lead up to the race there had been a mixture of dry and wet days which made the natural trail sections quite slippery. The morning of the race also had rain with conditions drying up for the afternoon.

Banbridge CC were well represented in the races and had some great results including three race wins.

In the under 16s race John Buller finished well clear of his nearest rival and in the Junior race James Curry lead from start to finish as he caught up with and raced the Senior 1 men,

Richard Baird joined James on the podium in third. Gareth McKee stormed the Senior 1 race with a massive gap over his fellow competitors from lap one onwards.

Not to be overshadowed by the boys we also had 2 podiums in the women’s races with Ruth Aiken 2nd S3 woman and Shannon Buller 2nd S2 woman.

Banbridge CC was also well represented in the youth races by Sam Baird, James Buller, Mark Buller and Jack Baird and in the S3 race by Nathan Sturrock.

The Ulster MTB Championships are taking place on Sunday 23 August 2015 at Colebrooke Estate in Fermanagh.
