Jack targets single figures after securing first win of the season

Young Jack McKerr won the Open Stableford last Thursday with an excellent score of 41 points.

This young man is obviously an emerging talent. He plays off a 17 handicap at the moment and it will be interesting to see how low he can get by the end of the season. Single figures is his aim.

Stefan Greenberg (2) was runner-up with 39 points. Stefan played the 18 holes in one under par gross 68 which is very impressive.

Gerard McBrien (21) was third with 37 points. Gerry has been very consistent this season so far and I hope the Junior Cowdy captain is taking note.

Our Club captain, Bill McCandless, won the best gross prize with a 75. He beat Jonathan Shannon on countback.

The nearly men were Chris McEvoy (9), Noel McSherry (12), Brendan McConville (14) and Paddy Malcolmson (10) who all had 36 points.

There must be plenty of youngsters watching Rory McIlroy on television or reading about the heroics of local girl Olivia Mehaffey and thinking they would like to try the game of golf. And they can too.
