Jack and Ryan help PG team to victory

Young Dunbarton starlets Ryan McElroy and Jack Moffatt were part of the successful Private Greens Junior team that retained the Junior Inter Association Championship at Belmont last weekend.

Amazingly, the Private Greens side defeated the BLI team by a massive 98 shots in their first game and followed this with a narrow five shot win over the NIBA in their second game.

And whilst they were defeating the NIBA, the BLI bounced back to beat the Provincial Towns. Therefore, barring a complete disaster, the Private Greens could afford to lose against the Provincial Towns.

As it turned out, they did lose narrowly by four shots, but the Championship was already well in the bag.

Ryan led on the rink skipped by Terry Crawford (Belmont) and defeated the BLI 32-13, drew with his NIBA counterparts 17-17 before falling to a 12-22 defeat to the Provincial Towns.

Whilst Jack played third on the rink skipped by Stephen Kirkwood (Old Bleach) and began with a thumping 44-8 win over the BLI, before falling to a 13-21 reverse to NIBA, only to bounce back with a hard fought 21-17 over the Provincial Towns.

The Dunbarton club would like to congratulate both young Gilford bowlers.

And that was not the only reason that Jack had a smile on his face all weekend.

Shortly after the Inter Association Series was finished, the Irish Junior team was selected and Jack was picked to wear the green jersey for the second year in succession. This year’s Junior Home Internationals will be held in Oxford and Jack will play second on the rink skipped by Old Bleach’s Robert Kirkwood.

And then to top off a fantastic weekend, Jack and his Dunbarton team-mate Andy Hughes lifted the City of Belfast Pairs title with a 23-4 demolition of the Divis Pairing of P Rooney and R Cregan.
