It's a big win for Bann as Large nets winners

Banbridge Thirds kept alive their hopes of finishing second in Junior Two on Saturday.

That was thanks to a 4-3 win over Belfast Harlequins in their final league match of the season.

Now they just have to wait and see how the other teams in the mix finish in their final games next weekend.

It was a thrilling win for Bann on Saturday as they reached 33 points for the season.

Late call offs from Jordan and Graham meant Liggett and Barlow had to drop down from the seconds squad.

Harlequins took the game to Bann from the start and Dale in the Bann goal pulled off a couple of great early saves.

Unfortunately for Bann, from a further attack Harlequins took the lead.

The goal spurred Bann into life and Magowan, Knox and Barlow started to take a grip of the midfield.

Bann had a good period of possession but found the Harlequins keeper in good form.

Harlequins again started strongly in the second half and after a good attack down the right hand side of the pitch the ball was played across the circle for their forward to make no mistake from the penalty spot.

Bann won a short corner midway through the second half and Barlow made no mistake firing the ball into the bottom corner.

With ten minutes left in the half Bann went ahead for the first time in the match when Magowan turned in the circle to slot the ball into the bottom corner from the top of the circle.

Harlequins continued to press for the equaliser and with five minutes left found the goal.

Bann didn’t sit back in the last five minutes knowing they needed the win to have any chance of claiming second spot and with minutes left a rebound fell to Corey Large who rifled the ball into the bottom corner to give Bann all three points.
