Danny O’Boyle’s team were drawn to play Kilkeel and the local skipper would have been hoping for at least a 3-1 victory in the opening leg.

However, it didn’t materialise and they could only muster a 2-2 draw.

PJ Johnston and Andrew Burns lost in the top game to and one. That was a bit unexpected.

Danny O’Boyle and John McCormac levelled the score with an emphatic four and three win and Kenny Arlow and Colin McDonald put Banbridge ahead, also winning on the 15th.

The Kilkeel men are always fierce competitors and they hit back in the fourth and final game. Paul Faulkner and Robbie Haire were beaten five and four.

Kilkeel must now be favourites to progress but Danny O’Boyle will not be thinking like that.

It’s far from over and there’s all the play for when the teams meet againat Killkeel Golf Club.
