It's a '˜Glorious Twelfth' for Brian after Bank Holiday Medal victory

He shot his best round of the season so far and it was no surprise that it was enough to win the Bank Holiday Medal.

Playing off a 13 handicap, Brian went round the course in only four over par gross, shooting a 73 and that gave him a marvellous total of 45 stableford points.

His card was practically flawless and it was highlighted by birdies at holes three, six, seven and 12. He will be pleased to know that his handicap is now 11 after he got a two shot cut for his outstanding efforts.

Young Matthew Doyle (20) was runner-up with 40 points. Keeping double bogeys off your scorecard is not easy as any golfer knows but Matthew had four of them and it cost him in the end.

Meanwhile, Ian Craven (14) was third with a very credible 39 points.

John Gallagher (9) took fourth nett prize, also with 39 points but having been edged out by Ian on countback.

Paul Magennis can relax now that his Captain’s Day is over.

He can concentrate on his own game too and the four handicapper showed all his talent in this outing. He shot a two over par 71 and won the best gross in the 12th of July Medal.

And, finally, the prize for best senior went to Peter Hillen (11) with 39 points.

You have got to feel sorry for Hugo Downey, Kevin McKay and Robert Canning though. They all had 39 points and might well have felt they had done enough to end up in the prizes, However, their back nines just weren’t enough on the day and they all went home empty-handed after being beaten on the countback.
