IRONSIDE CUP GETS UNDERWAY

THE fourth annual charity football tournament for the Banbridge District kicked off this week with two semi finals being played last night and tonight and culminating in the final which will take place this Friday night.

The Ironside Trophies Cup entrants this year are Seapatrick (Intermediate A), Banbridge Rangers (Intermediate B), Scarva Rangers (Division Two) and Banbridge AFC (Intermediate B) with the Tech playing host to all three matches this year.

The first semi final had current holders Seapatrick scheduled to take on Banbridge Rangers in a repeat of the 2008 semi final which saw these same two teams play out a thrilling 4-4 draw before Banbridge Rangers won their ticket to the final in the penalty shootout.

The Tuesday semi final will see Scarva Rangers attempt to make it four final appearances in a row having competed in every final since the inception of the tournament in 2007.

Banbridge AFC will look to bounce back after a disappointing campaign in Intermediate B and will be determined to put their names on the Ironside Cup for the first time and hope to overturn Scarva with kick off at 7pm at the Tech Pitch.

The winners will meet on Friday night at the Tech with a 7pm kick off and will preceed the Relay for Life event which begins on Saturday morning at Banbridge Rugby Club.

The Ironside Cup is one of many fundraising events organised by the Head Banging Billy Goats teams who enter the Relay For Life every year. The team will be attending all three matched with donations at the gate going to a very worthwhile cause.
