Intermediate football back at Ferris Park

INTERMEDIATE football makes a welcome return to Dromore on Saturday when the Amateurs kick off the 2010/11 campaign with a home tie against Iveagh United.

After a few years in the junior ranks, Dromore Amateurs have made the step up to 1C of the Northern Amateur Football League.

Following a pitch inspection by the IFA during the summer, Ferris Park was cleared for Intermediate football, and the Amateurs’ application to join 1C was accepted.

So Saturday marks another historic milestone in the history of the club – and the players are looking forward to a return to competitive action.

Under the direction of manager Barry Taylor, it’s been a demanding pre-season, with some gruelling sessions up at the rugby club - and now is the time to see all that hard work pay dividends when old foes Iveagh United visit Ferris Park. Kick-off 2pm. All support welcome.

* Last weekend, both the firsts and seconds played host to Mid-Ulster Intermediate B side Seagoe. In a keenly-fought contest, the firsts slipped to a 3-1 defeat while a fine strike by teenager Michael Magennis gave the seconds a 1-0 victory at the Community Centre. The Amateurs wish Seagoe every success for the season ahead.

* Malcolm Russell swapped chairman duties last Saturday for those of the referee when he picked up the whistle and expertly handled the firsts’ game at Ferris Park. Many thanks ‘Chairman Mal’.

* Players are reminded that the deadline for the payment of the membership fee is fast approaching. All monies must be paid to the treasurer by the end of August. Remember, you can pay the fee off in instalments - so get it paid!

* Finally, the committee has organised a BBQ and disco to be held in the Ranch on Saturday to celebrate the start of the season. Proceedings get under way at 7pm – music by Squincy. Functions such as these are crucial to securing the economic viability of the club - so all players are urged to make the effort and show their support.
