Impressive win for Bann Thirds as they start the new year with a bang

Banbridge Thirds, sponsored by Edina, started 2016 with a bang with an impressive win over Annadale thirds.

The Thirds were without Joel Reid and Craig Kennedy who had both received call ups to the seconds.

Bann started with real intent and energy. Bann soon opened the scoring when Dean raced into the circle and lift the ball over the advancing Annadale keeper.

Bann kept the pressure on the Annadale defence and after a mix up in defence Dean’s initial shot was well saved but Young was on hand to knock in the rebound.

Annadale fought their way back into the game and after a free hit wasn’t controlled in the Bann circle the Annadale forward made no mistake from close range.

Graham and McConnell were linking up well down the left hand side of the pitch and after a promising attack Bann won a short corner.

Anderson stepped up to make no mistake from the top of the circle to give Bann their two goal advantage again.

Annadale controlled the later part of the first half and won a couple of short corners, the second of which they scored from after an excellent shot.

In the second half Bann continued their high level of play and wanted to put the game out of reach of Annadale as quickly as possible.

Ligget and McConnell were causing problems with their speed down both flanks and when McConnell fed the ball to Dean in the circle after a quick attack the striker made no mistake. Young wasn’t to be out done by his strike partner and followed up on a Dean shot to get his second and Bann’s fifth.

Bann now face a difficult trip to Shawsbridge to take on table toppers Instonians seconds.
