Impressive displays by Cowdy teams

BOTH the Senior Cowdy and the Junior Cowdy teams from Banbridge Golf Club were involved in semi-finals last Sunday.

The two team captains are Kieran Magennis and Tom Fee and their dream is to see both teams in their respective finals this season.

After the first legs of both semi-finals, the dream is very much alive.

The Senior Cowdy team travelled to Rossmore Golf Club and came away with an encouraging 17-15 points lead.

The Junior Cowdy team played Mannan Castle at home and they won three and a half points out of a possible four.

The details follow.

SENIOR COWDY - Jonathan Ward got a half match against one handicapper Kieran Lavery (two points).

Luke Woods beat Dermot McCrystal 2 and 1 (four points).

Paul Magennis lost by one hole to Philip Cassidy (half point).

Neil Madeley halved his game against Daniel McCrossan (two points).

Rory Madeley beat John McQuaid 5 and 4 (four points).

Kieran Magennis beat Dylan McMahon 3 and 1 (four points).

Jonathan Burns lost 3 and 2 against Sean Moyne (no points).

This was a superb team effort and full marks go to team captain Kieran, young Luke Woods and to Rory Madeley who all got the maximum four points.

The second leg is at home this coming Sunday and Banbridge need fifteen and a half points for victory. They are well capable of getting that and more.

JUNIOR COWDY - Shane Crossan and Adrian Barry raced to a 6 and 5 win over Peter Marron and Kieran Dulligan.

Barrie McCoy and Gerry Blevins went four up after four holes against Thomas Gartlan and Eamon Jones. They went on to win by 3 and 2.

Jonathan Kerr and Carson Clegg combined perfectly to beat Sean Harvey and Jim Hanratty by 3 and 2.

Dominic Quinn and James Bryson had a battle royal against Liam Murphy and Kieran Grimes. They were two up after eleven holes but found themselves one down after sixteen. Dominic and James both had putts to win the 17th but that green is notoriously difficult and they both missed by a fraction.

But, fair play to them, they won the eighteenth in great style to get a vital half match.

The second leg of this semi-final is at Mannan Castle next Sunday. Banbridge need to win one game out of the four. We would expect them to achieve that. Fingers crossed!
