Ian wins first Thursday Open of year

THE Thursday Open Stableford competitions have started and they will continue until the end of September.

These are ideal opportunities for those players who cannot always play on Saturdays. They are qualifying competitions so there is the added incentive of getting that handicap reduced.

The first one was last Thursday, April 29 and there were 21 entries. We expect that number to double as the season unfolds.

The winner was Ian Magowan (14) with 38 points and the runner-up was Trevor Woods (6), also with 38 points.

The best gross prize went to Jonathan Ward with a four over par 73, beating Colin Wilton on countback.

Colin finished with 37 points and so too did Alan Dale (12).
