Home win for Swifts in Junior Cup

RATHFRILAND Swifts hosted Rectory Rangers of Portadown in the first round of the Junior Cup and after the 90 minutes fulled deserved their 6–2 victory.

Rathfriland were a goal up when Alastair Wilson slotted home with a low shot while the same player made it 2–0 with a stooping header at the back post from a Keith Megaw corner.

Kyle Heslip went close to making it 3–0 with a good turn and shot while Philip Johnston also went close.

Wilson then got his hat trick when he raced from the half way line and slotted home after a great solo run while Terry Toal also went close to making it 3–0 with a great effort.

The second half was only minutes old when it was 4–0 to Rathfriland when Philip Johnston raced through to eyeball the visiting keeper and fire home with a low shot.

Toal again went close but Philip Johnston got his second of the game with a great curling shot lifted over the `keeper.

Hollingsworth went close as well but a penalty at the other end allowed Rectory to pull one back while another break away goal made it 5–2.

The Swifts collected their sixth of the game when Wilson got his fourth with another low shot to leave the final score at 6–2.

Overall an excellent first half display by the home side and although the second period was just not as effective, Rathfriland fully deserved their 6–2 win with an overall professional team performance.
