On Monday morning, Ulster Hockey agreed at Banbridge’s request to postponed the club’s home game against Cookstown due to four Bann players being on international duty in South Africa. That afternoon, the clubs were issued with a fixture list indicating Bann would instead host NICS in the Ulster Premier League.

However, Ulster Hockey has now advised the LEADER that this game too is off.

“The club’s were given notification of the fixtures on Monday afternoon but NICS have indicated that they won’t be able to fulfil the fixture due to the short notice and also the fact that they were originally due to play on Friday and their players had arranged to get the day off work,” said an Ulster Hockey spokesperson.

Banbridge have 10 fixtures to play before 7 March but will now have a free weekend. A fixture headache awaits.

Captain Eugene Magee, top-scorer Stevie Dowds, Bruce McCandless and Drew Carlisle will all be off to South Africa with the Ireland squad.
