BANBRIDGE Rangers Reserves got their league campaign underway on Friday evening with an eventful match at the Tech against Silverwood United Reserves.

After gaining promotion last year confidence with Dan Thornton's team has remained high with several key signings in pre season to strengthen the squad.

In a dominant first half that saw eight goals Banbridge Rangers scored four times in the first 20 minutes with only one reply from the visitors.

Richie Adamson rose highest in the box after five minutes and got a big head on an in swinging corner to give Rangers Reserves first advantage which was followed up by an equaliser when Silverwood swept home from six yards.

The response was immediate with striker John Thompson dinking the keeper to restore the lead for the home side.

Soon after a John McCahon lob over the keeper was met by Aaron Chambers who scored his first goal for the club and doubled his teams advantage.

Tricky winger McCahon was then able to add his name to the score sheet before Silverwood scored from the penalty spot.

Banbridge Rangers Reserves top scorer for last season John Thompson got his second of the night to make it five before becoming provider crossing for Thornton who finished confidently to make it 6-2 at the half time interval.

Silverwood Reserves started the second half better giving themselves a bit of hope with two goals coming from a long range shot and then a deflected effort. There were plenty of chances to extend the lead and a seventh goal for Banbridge Rangers was added by Aaron Chambers who scored a breakaway goal to secure the win.

Both teams continued to press for goals with Silverwood getting a fifth goal but that was to be it for the visitors in terms of a threat on the three points. Aaron Chambers and Paul McVeigh probably should have extended the lead for Banbridge Rangers but the game would fizzle out with only twelve goals being scored on the night.

There were some impressive performances for Banbridge Rangers Reserves in their first game who travel to Gilford on Wednesday night before having free Saturday.
