Higgins maintain top spot with win over Legion thanks to tight doubles victories

Banbridge and District Pool League Premier Division leaders Higgins continued their good form with a victory this weekend.

Banbridge Legion 3 - 5 Higgins

Higgins were made to work hard for both points to maintain their slender one point lead at the top. A Thompson inflicted a first league defeat on Michael McClean in frame one but the next two frames went to the visitors as Colly Wilton and Gareth Moody were in great form. Another of the Higgins high flyingers suffered a rare defeat in the fourth as G. Steenson showed fantastic ball control to level the match. Kevin Smyth restored the league leaders advantage and A Magill made sure that Higgins would have to win both doubles to win. Gareth and Colly held their nerve in the first match and Michael McClean and Noel Meara were not going to lose two matches in one night.

Market Bar A 5 - 3 Castle Bar A

The Market kept pressure on the leaders.

Trevor Ashe gave them the perfect start but they found themselves under severe pressure as Connor Mc Garrell and Darren O’ Hagan both won their matches. Gareth Graham responded and the match was level before P Branham made it 3-2 to the home side. Russell Connell once again gave us a tied game. The doubles went the way of the home side.

Mulhollands A 5 - 3 Detroit

With a shock exit from the Brendan McAdam Cup, Mulhollands are now going for the title and kept their efforts on track with a comfortable win against an inconsistent Detroit team.

Andy Bingham won the first match with a scrappy performance, Luigi Burns gave Detroit some hope but Gary Crawford and Neil Beggs pulled Mulhollands back into the lead. Liam Gribben gave the away side some hope but that was kicked into touch as Issac Mulholland and the pairing of Gary Crawford and Andy Bingham secured the points.

Cullens 3 - 5 Coach

The home side again found themselves leading going into the final three frames only to come away with nothing.

T Dane and C Overerod took the opening two frames to put The Coach under pressure. Bill Thompson and Barry McGeown levelled the match. B McClelland restored Cullens lead and it looked like a positive result but The Coach had other ideas, winning the final three matches.
