Hannon hits the podium as Bann riders impress

Banbridge Cycling Club's Brian Hannon and Kevin McAlinden were both in action at the opening round of the Cycling Ulster Masters Over 50s League at the Phoenix GP in Crumlin on Sunday.

In tough conditions and in the most competitive field the league has seen in recent years with almost 50 competitors, both local riders showed they had great shape for the early season races.

Following a strong showing the day before at the Banbridge CC promoted Travers Engineering Annaclone GP, Hannon put in another impressive display and finished in an excellent third place to step upon the podium.

That, however, was the cost of his Banbridge clubmate McAlinden, who followed closely behind but had to make do with fourth place.

Meanwhile, in the A4 race in Crumlin, Mark Kendall showed his consistency with an excellent fifth place finish, again after putting in a strong performance the day before in Annaclone.

After another strong performance, A3 category status looks like it won’t be too far off for the Banbridge man, who has set his own goal of scoring points in every race he enters until he does so – there’s no lack of ambition there.
