Great performance by Rathfriland U9s

ON Saturday Rathfriland U9’s produced a great performance against Damolly in the IFA Games Development Centre.

Rathfriland started brightly with Aaron Baxter causing the Damolly defence a lot of headaches down Rathfriland’s right flank.

This pressure soon paid off as Rathfriland scored the first goal of the game through great centre forward work from Adam Trimble. Adam went on to score a hat-trick in the first period which was a fantastic achievement.

In the second period Rathfriland made a couple of changes and brought on Conor McElroy and Frank Finlay, these two boys worked tirelessly throughout the game as they continue to develop their skills.

Shane Haughey was untouchable in this period as he went on a number of great runs to keep Rathfriland on the front foot, Shane went on to grab a sensational six goals by the end of the game.

Rathfriland’s defence was solid throughout the game with Christopher McConville and Steven McElroy marshalling the backline and Jack McGinn in total control in goals. Jack had very little to do in this game but on one occasion pulled off what only could be described as a world class save.

Aaron Baxter, who was captain for the day, produced another great performance and managed to score two goals on his way to collecting the Man of the Match award. Steven McElroy and Alex McKee also managed to get their names on the score sheet and rounded off Rathfriland’s goals for the day.
