Good start to the season for Bann A

THE new season began well for Banbridge as they recorded a good win over Dungannon.

Banbridge can consider themselves lucky to have taken six points from the game as the scoreline in the end was very tight.

After five ends Bann were up by four shots but after 10 ends they trailed by one shot to the home team. Two of Bann’s rinks failed to score over the last four ends but still won their point.

Rink 1: Charles Davis’ rink had an impressive opening, winning the first three ends to lead 7-0. The wheels seemed to fall off the wagon as Dungannon won the following eight ends to lead by six shots.

The Bann boys of J Jess, J Major, G Moore and C Davis regained their composure and again took command. When the 17th end was played Bann led 22-13 and won in the end 25-19.

Rink 2: This was a close contest for Brendan Davis’ rink who were one shot adrift at five ends, trailing 3-4. Bann were still in contention and were 7-9 as Dungannon restricted Bann to winning just one end from the five played.

Brendan’s rink found themselves now behind by seven points and eventually ended up as Bann’s only losing rink, with the final score 16-22.

Rink three: Dan Buchanan’s rink of M Bingham, W Steenson and M Jess won just eight ends from the 21 played but still won a point.

Bann trailed by two shots after four ends and on the next two ends Bann scored a five followed by a four which enabled the Bann boys to lead by three shots after 10 ends.

On the 15th end Bann scored a six followed by a single and this proved to be the score that secured the point as Dungannon won al the remaining ends.

Rink 4: This was another close encounter with Banbridge adrift by the fifth end but by the 10th had moved in front to lead by two. After 15 ends this was now a four shot lead and by the end of the game they were beaten by two shots.
