William on top in open stableford

WILLIAM Malcolmson is an ambitious young golfer. He has set his target this season to get his handicap down to five or better.

He certainly has the ability to do so. All he needs is a little bit of good fortune and a few more putts to drop.

William won the Open Stableford on Thursday May 31 with 42 points, the equivalent of a nett 63. William’s handicap was cut from seven to six and that pleased him immensily.

Callum Barnes (14) was runner-up with 41 points.

Neil Comiskey (13) was third with 41 points. Neil deserves to win one of these Thursday Opens. Over the last three weeks, Neil has been second twice and third once.

Kevin McKay (15) was fourth with 40 points.

Jonathan Ward (4) won the best gross prize with a 71. Jonathan would surpass even Neil Comiskey as the most consistent player in the Thursday Opens. Jonathan, in a three-week spell, has won the competition twice and won the best gross once.

The near misses were Gareth Moody (10) with 40 points and Sean M Quinn (17), Joseph Brush (18), Kevin Smyth (14), Jonathan Brush (13), all with 39 points.

But, on the day, no-one could catch William Malcolmson.
