Webb’s Turkey on the menu

GERRY Webb (22) confirmed his Christmas dinner menu at Prehen on Saturday in the weekly Turkey and Spirits stableford competition with a convincing 38 points tally over the 16 holes played.

Thursday Society treasurer Eddie Mitchell (15) finished in second place for a bottle of spirits, scoring 37 points and edging out Jim McDaid (18) on a count back.

While Ricky Porter (18) was best of the day in the Jim Bresland Trophy played for by Prehen’s Thursday Society members with a fine 35 points over 16 holes.

Played in less than ideal conditions with wind and rain a big factor he finished one shot ahead of Davy Godfrey (24) who was making a welcome return to the winner’s enclosure after a long absence. Patsy Gallagher (27), another stalwart of the Society also finished on 34 points losing out on the count back to Davy.

A break of tie was needed to separate the final two places with Cecil Thompson (13) just edging out Rodney Smyth (19). Prizegiving for this competition takes place at the Society’s Christmas party on December 21.

While it was with great regret and sadness that Prehen members learned on Saturday of the passing of their esteemed former captain and friend Raymond McLaughlin.

He will be sadly missed and the Captain and Council of the club extend their deepest sympathy to his wife Frances, his daughters Karen and Deirdre and his sons Raymond and Kieran. May he rest in peace
