Two point victory for Bruce at Banbridge GC

Banbridge have produced many fine hockey players and one of the greats, certainly without a shadow of doubt the very best in the McCandless household, is Bruce McCandless.

Those at Banbridge GC wouldn’t be surprised if Bruce turns out to be the best golfer as well.

Bruce constructed a very impressive one over par round containing 13 pars, three bogeys and two birdies, adding up to a magnificent 44 points and a two point victory in the YESS Electric stableford competition.

Well done Bruce and hopefully there are many more where that came from.

Thanks to the kind sponsorship of YESS Electric the members of Banbridge Golf Club played for some very generous prizes last Saturday.

There was a fresh wind and with the course playing its full length, the CSS for the day of 68 (37 points) was bettered by only 17 competitors.

Paul Mark, Peter Hillen, Gareth Magee, Roy McAfee and Jim Mathews all had 40 pts on the day.

This group includes the winner of the best senior prize – super scoring on the day.

John McDowell played steady but unspectacular golf, according to Duck.

Nevertheless when it was totalled up it was 42 points, third place on the day, a handicap reduction to 10.0 and Duck had played himself off the Rossmore Cup team for the following day.

Well done and keep up the practice as you work your way back to single figures, Duck.

Andrew Burns had a mixed bag for the first five holes and the last four holes.

However, the nine holes from the sixth to the 14th were covered in one over par and Andrew had also amassed 42 points and beaten John McDowell on the better second nine to finish runner-up on the day. Great scoring and a well deserved result.

The best gross score was a very tidy level par round from Rory Leonard for 36 gross points.
