Tracey is history maker at Foyle after great double

FOYLE Golf Club Members filled the time sheet to capacity on Saturday last in pursuit of Rob Gallagher’s Presidents prizes.

The 200 competitors enjoyed fabulous weather and a course in magnificent condition therefore everything was in place for a very good competition.

When the cards were counted 10 handicapper Martin Tracey with 42 points entered the history books at Foyle by winning the coveted Presidents prize to add to his Captain’s Prize won last month therefore becoming the first player to win both majors in the same year at the Club.

Second was Marc Power (22) after he scored 42 points and nine handicapper Stephen Cassidy with 40 points was third after a break of tie finish.

The category 0-11 was won by Darren Jennings (7) after he scored 40 points, the category 12-17 was won after a BOT finish by Darren McCay (17) after finishing with 39 points and Paul McCahill (22) claimed the category 18+, when he scored 40 points

The visitor’s prize went to Terry Houston (17) after scoring 34 points, juvenile section went to Darradh Glynn (10) after he scored 42 points and nearest the pin was Tommy Bradley. The CSS was 37 points.

The Crumley Construction monthly medal, which was played on Sunday saw Frank Doherty (7) with nett 66 win the category 0-11, Paul McGrillis (16) with nett 67 won the category 12-17 and Paddy McCafferty (21) with nett 71 claimed the category 18+.

Last Friday’s open stableford competition was won after a BOT finish by Steven Gallagher (20) after he scored 41 points, second also on 41 points was Gary McEvoy (5) and Gary Kennedy (15) with 39 points was third also after a BOT finish.

Foyle Golf Club had a very successful weekend in the GUI Inter Club Competitions with the Ulster Cup team reaching the quarter-finals of the competition for the third consecutive year and the Fred Daly Team reaching the Ulster Finals.

The Ulster Cup Team have reached the quarter-finals after a very convincing victory over a very good Newtownstewart team by 9.5 to 3.5 matches having secured a 6/1 victory at home they travelled to the away leg with cautious optimism knowing that nothing short of a good performance was needed and this they produced to gain a half match 3.5 to 3.5 matches and will play now Ballyclare for a place in the semi-finals.

Damian McColgan and his very talented Fred Daly team have qualified for the Ulster Finals after an excellent performance against a fine Clandeboye team having won the home leg 7/0 they went to the away leg only needing a half match but were very aware that they needed another good performance to progress and this they produced with Lawerance Powell gaining the half match that the team needed, they will now travel to Masserenne on Sunday to play Lurgan in the semi-final.
