Team 17 winSpring League

THE very successful Pitchers Restaurant Spring League came to a conclusion when the final was played between Team 17 David Stevenson, Sean Sands, Paul McEleney and Neill Cooke and Team 20 Noel Martin, Gary Cassidy, Adrian Browne and Roy Martin.

The Match was played in pairs betterball format over 18 holes with holes up deciding the winners and in a pulsating and very close match it was decided in Team 17’s favour by the slender margin of two holes and they pick up the coveted 2012 Spring League Title.

The Holmpatrick Cup Qualifier was played in fine conditions which was reflected in the scoring with the strong pairing of David Wilson (10) and Michael Thompson (10) making full use of the favourable conditions to top the Qualifying with an excellent score of 46 points and will represent the club in the County Final to be played at City of Derry later in the Summer.

Runners up were Damien Martin (5) and Sean Rankin (20) who scored 45 points.

The Friday open stableford competition was won by Gerry McMichael (15) after he scored 41 points, second was Emmett McNally (9) 39 points and City of Derry’s Eddie Burton (7) with 37 points won the visitors prize. The CSS was 36 points.

The Spring Trophy, which is sponsored by McFadden Construction was held at Foyle on Saturday and attracted an excellent entry with the competitors having a decent day apart from a stiff breeze, which had no effect on 13 handicapper Ruari O’ Connor who compiled an excellent four over par round for his winning score of 45 points, and a substancial handicap reduction.

The category 0-5 was claimed by David McGarrigle (5) after he finished with 38 points, the category 6-12 went to Gary McEvoy Junior (10) after a BOT finish when he scored 38 points and Shaun Mooney (24) with 37 points secured the category 21+.

The back nine went to Seamus McChrystal (12) who scored 21 points and the CSS was 37 points.

Today (Wednesday) is the weekly club stableford competition, on Friday there is a open stableford competition down for decision.

The International Pairs competition scheduled for Saturday and Sunday have been cancelled and replaced by Club Stableford competitions and both competitions qualify for Golfer of the Year points.
