Sweep results

SUNDAY 10 MARCH - John McDowell, the popular and hard-working competitions convener, played the Sunday nine holes course in one over par gross 37. That gave him a nett 32, which turned out to be the best score of the day.

John would like everyone to know that the new starting times come into operation this coming Saturday.

1st- John McDowell (10) Nett 32; 2nd- Kieran Mcgreevey (21) Nett 32.5.

SATURDAY 17MARCH - This was the first 18 holes competition of the year. That put a smile on everyone’s face. At long last, we are beginning to play some real golf.

It was a photo finish for the podium positions. Three players finished with 44 points, the equivalent of a nett 61.

It took a truly amazing shot from Walter Smyth on the final hole to clinch the number one spot.

He hit a 5-wood at this longish par 3 into about 2 feet from the hole. That brilliant birdie was crucial when it came to countback.

The first best gross prize of the year went to one handicapper, Colin Wilton, with a near flawless 68.

1st- Walter Smyth (15) 44 points; 2nd- Tom Mulholland (9) 44 points.; 3rd- Eamon McAnarney (14) 44 points; 4th- P.J. Johnston (14) 43 points. Best Gross: Colin Wilton (1) 68. Best Senior: John Molloy (21) 41 points.
