Everyone was hoping it would carry forward to the semi-final of the Belfast and District Cup. Maybe that was too much to hope for.

Banbridge’s opponents were Shandon Park, always one of the strongest team in the B and D.

The first leg was played at Banbridge last Wednesday evening and there was a large crowd of supporters from both clubs.

The outcome was rather sad, as far as Banbridge was concerned. Conor Doran holed a putt from off the green at the 18th to win his game and Jim Carvill holed a long putt over the edge of the mound, also on the 18th, to get a half match. Only for that, the result could have been a lot worse.

Here is how the games finished:

Jim Carvill halved with Johnny Taylor.

Conor Doran beat the South of Ireland champion, Stuart Bleakley, 1 up.

Colin Wilton lost to Henry Clarke 2 and 1.

Rory Madeley lost to Cameron Mills 2 down.

Rory Leonard lost to Chris Carroll 5 and 4.

Jonathan Ward lost to Neil Anderson 6 and 5.

Stefan Greenberg beat Jim Greaves 5 and 4.

Shandon Park led 4.5 to 2.5 after the first leg and they were delighted.

The second leg was played at Shandon Park last Friday.

It was virtually “mission impossible” for Banbridge after the poor result at home. All credit to our local team, they gave it their best shot.

Rory Leonard beat Cameron Mills 2 and 1.

Stefan Greenberg halved with Philip Purdy.

Josh Lockhart halved with the renowned Neil Anderson.

Connor Doran lost by only on hole against Chris Carrol.

This was a tremendous start but it couldn’t continue. Shandon Park only needed another two points and they secured them quite easily.

Colin Wilton lost 6 and 5 to Stuart Bleakley.

Rory Madeley lost 6 and 5 to Henry Clarke.

Jonathan Ward lost 5 and 4 to Johnny Gourley.

That was that, Shandon Park had won the semi-final by 9.5 to 4.5. They have won the B. and D. no less than 23 times in their history. That number could soon become 24. Good luck to them.
