Sensational scoring as Tom has round of his life

The “Bin 66” sponsored golf tournament at Banbridge Golf Club is firmly established as one of the four major competitions of the season.

It was held last Saturday and thankfully the weather was good. This resulted in some sensational scoring.

Tom was in the first fourball out and it suited him perfectly. He was round in 80 shots, a nett 60 and a winning score of 45 points.

Tom said: “I have had a 79 from the green blocks but an 80 from the white blocks is my best round by far.”

What was the secret of his success?

Tom answered: “I discarded my top-of-the range putter and borrowed a lot simpler style of putter from my son’s bag and it worked a treat.”

Tom’s only double bogey came at the 4th hole. Otherwise he was steadiness personified. He was delighted with the win and rightfully so.

Robert Ervine (19 now 16) was runner-up with 44 points. Double bogeys at 4 and 5 were costly but he had a nice little birdie at the 12th.

Terry Malcolmson (16 now 15) was third with 42 points. Terry started with a birdie and finished with a birdie. In-between, he made very few mistakes.

The prize for the best senior player went to the ever-popular John Parkes (13 now 12) who had 42 points.

John went round in 76 shots without a double bogey on his card. That’s worth a round of applause.

The great Jim Carvill (+2) won the best gross prize with a one over par 70.

You have got to feel sorry for those players who shot 40 points or better and walked away empty-handed.

Stanley Dickson (18) and Norman Robb (20) both had 42 points.

Johnny McKinstry (19) was alone on 41 points.

Ian Craven (13), John Bell (5) and Noel McSherry (12) each had 40 points.

But, on the day, nobody was going to catch Tom Nesbitt who led the competition from start to finish. Enjoy the moment, Tom!
