Roe Park Ladies win NW League

THE final of the North West League was played in Greencastle on Monday, September 27, with Roe Park up against North West Golf Club, Buncrana.Roe Park ladies team and their army of supporters gathered at Magilligan Point to take the ferry across to Greencastle.

Weather conditions on the day were perfect for the challenge ahead, although the nerves were showing on the first tee team captain Avril Haire spurred the ladies.

First lady home Bernie Lowry for Roe Park got the first point on the board, closely followed by Karen Brown who unfortunately lost by a slim margin.

Next over the line was Margaret Patterson who again was marginally beaten, so all was to play for on the shoulders of Patricia Somers and Ann O'Kane who were battling away on the course.

Patricia was always up in her match and secured the win for Roe Park on the 15th closely followed by Ann who also won on the 15th. This was a great victory for Roe Park as they lost out in the final last year.

At the presentation in the club house Team Captain Avril who was delighted with the win and thanked all who helped in the organisation on the day and particular thanks to Greencastle Golf Club for hosting the event.

Roe Park Lady Captain Rose McGuigan also thanked the Derry Journal for their continued sponsorship of the North West League and to the Roe Park supporters who travelled with the team on the day and a special thanks to Mr Nelson McGonagle President of Roe Park for his attendance also.

So it was back to Roe Park Golf Club for a well deserved celebration drink.
