Peter is tops at Silverwood

It was a stroke competition at Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday and the winner with a nett 64 was Peter Mulholland.

Peter went round the front nine in 36 strokes with two birdies at the 4th and 8th holes, four pars at the 2nd, 3rd 6th and 7th holes and three bogeys.

He had a back nine of 41 with five pars at the 10th, 13th,14th, 15th and 17th holes, and four single bogeys to win by one shot.

In second place with an excellent round of golf was Kevin Munster with a gross 69, for a nett 65.

Kevin had a front nine of 34 with two birdies at the 7th and 9th holes, his only bogey at the 6th hole and six pars.

His back nine was even better with another two birdies at the 13th and 14th holes and seven pars, for a back nine of 35 and a handicap reduction to 3.

In third place was Gordon Reilly with a nett 67. Gordon had a front nine 36 with two birdies at the 8th and 9th holes, four pars at the 1st, 5th 6th and 7th holes and three bogeys. His back nine of 38 had another two birdies at the 13th and 14th holes, four pars at the 10th, 12th, 16th and 17th holes and three single bogeys.

The gross prize was collected once again by Fintan McAreavey with a two under par 70.

Fintan had a front nine 35 with two birdies at the 1st and 9th holes, two bogeys at the 3rd and 7th holes and five pars. His back nine included two more birdies at the 15th and 18th holes and seven pars for yet another sub-par round of golf for Fintan.

Fourth place went to Dessie Skelton with a nett 67, he had a front nine of 35 with the highlight being an eagle at the 8th hole, one birdie at the 2nd hole, four pars at the 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th holes and three bogeys.

His back nine of 40 had one birdie at the 13th hole, one double bogey at the 12th hole, two single bogeys at the 17th and 18th holes, and five pars.

Fifth place went to John McCaffrey with another nett 67, he had a front nine of 35 with a double bogey start at the 1st, followed by three birdies, one bogey and four pars.

His back nine of 42 contained two double bogeys at the 12th and 15th holes, one single bogey at the 15th hole and six pars.

The senior prize went to Hugo Funes with a nett 69.

The junior prizes were picked up by 1st Aaron Doyle nett 66, 2nd James Judge nett 68.

Section winners: 0-12 Conor Jordan nett 68; 13-18 ; Jeff Conway nett 68; 19-28 Kieran McAlinden nett 68.

The mid-week sweep winner was Albert Porter with an excellent 48 points.
