He was only 2 over par walking to the 15th tee. The possibility of breaking 70 may have crossed his mind.

Those last four holes have spoiled many a scorecard and they caught out Patrick this time.

He dropped five shots in that small area and he must have thought his chance of winning had gone, but his 42 points was good enough.

Stuart Hunter (5) has returned to the ancient game after a lengthy sabbatical and he has lost none of his golfing skills. Stuart shot a superb gross 70 and he took second place with 41 points.

Dr. Jim Mallon (13) was back to his brilliant best and he finished in third place with 39 points.

Joshua Crory (6) won the best gross with a tidy 73.

Sherwin and Karen Curran beat Victor and Kathy O’Neill 1 up.

Eamon and Gina McConville beat John McDowell and Denise Nelson 3 and 2.

There are four strong pairings in the semi-finals but the big question is, can anyone beat Rory and Megan? It looks very doubtful.
