Paddy picks up the prize with a five shot win in Centenary Cup

There is always someone who can handle the conditions better than anyone else. That man was Paddy Malcolmson.

The players at Banbridge Golf Club are still waiting for a warm, dry and calm Saturday so that they can really enjoy their game of golf.

The conditions last Saturday for the Centenary Cup were far from easy. It was cold, very windy and there was the odd shower or two.

Paddy, playing off a 15 handicap, went round in 79 shots, only 10 over par and he didn’t have a double bogey on his card until the 16th hole.

It was a brilliant round of golf from the big man. He had 45 stableford points and he duly won the competition by five clear points.

Garth McDonald (16) was runner-up with 38 points. He did really well despite having a triple bogey at the first hole and another one at the short 12th hole.

Jeffrey Brown (12) won the low section (0-12) with 38 points. Gary McCormick (11) was second, also with 38 points.

Dominic Quinn (21) won the high section with 36 points. Dominic’s son Andrew won this cup in 2014 and Dominic did his best to keep it in the family.

Scott Major (25) was second in the high section with 36 points.

Rory Leonard (+1) won the best gross prize with a one over par 70. This was a truly magnificent round in the tough conditions.
