Olivia through to British Amateur final 32

Scarva girl Olivia Mehaffey is through to the last 32 of the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship at Portstewart GC.

The 17 year-old cruised through her opening match, defeating England’s Lianna Bailey five and four.

Olivia will now take on Elizabeth Prior in a match in which she will again be the favourite.

She qualified for the match-play stages in 20th place, adding a second round one under par 72 to her opening 74 to leave her at level par

Olivia’s Irish team-mate and current world number one Leona Maguire is the heavy favourite having comfortably led the qualifying and eased through her opening match eight and six against Martina Edberg.

The year couldn’t have gone much better for Olivia so far after she picked up three successive titles in the Irish Girls, Welsh Ladies and Scottish Ladies. Last week, she was also named alongside Leona Maguire in the GB&I team to take on Continental Europe in the Vagliano Trophy at Malone Golf Club on June 26-27.
