Nip and tuck between in-form players

If this was the case there is no doubt that the two names that would be coming to the fore would be Liz Denver and Pamela Morrow.

These two ladies continue to take to golf, like ducks to water, and every week they gain in confidence and their handicaps continue to fall. A few weeks ago it was Pamela who pipped Liz on the count back but this week Liz returned the favour when both ladies had nett 66.

Liz had a bad run of holes in the middle of her front nine but she didn’t let this deter her and had a very impressive back nine finishing with a nice par at the last.

Likewise Pam had a better front nine but just recorded a few higher scores in the last few holes which proved her undoing but still won her section by no less than 7 shots. Liz has reduced her handicap to 30 and Pam to 32 so congratulations to them both.

Fresh from the excitement at the weekend when she finished third in the Irish Women’s Strokeplay and was selected for the girls European team Niamh McSherry took the gross with a three over par 75. It is good to see her back on Lurgan’s fairways and members are looking forward to seeing all the girls out again when the exams are finished.

Section one was a very tightly contested affair with Dee Farrell just holding off Susan McMorrow when they both recorded nett 72. Again a closer examination of Dee’s card shows just how well she is playing with only one bad hole which held her back a bit. Sian Mulholland and Clare McGourty both had nett 73 so they too are very much in form players.

Not to be outdone by grand daughter Niamh, Eileen McCann won section two with a nett 71 just beating Geraldine Hickland by a shot.

Eileen has finished in the top 10 on her last two outings so seems to be finding form at just the right time.

As already mentioned Pam Morrow came out top of the pile in section three.

The only two of the day went to one of the late starters, Catherine Jinks.
