Narrow defeat for Banbridge in the Junior Cowdy Cup

Banbridge are out of the Junior Cowdy Cup, beaten in the quarterfinal by a strong Kilkeel team.

Colin Smylie captained this team and he was really disappointed to lose the first leg at home 3-1.

The return leg at Kilkeel last Saturday was always going to be an uphill struggle.

But Colin’s men gave it their best shot and, after nine holes, looked like winning it.

But it just didn’t work out.

Dominic Quinn and John Convery lost by 4 and 3 against Rodney Hanna and Declan Fitzpatrick.

But then Gerry Blevins and Bertie Shaw beat Vincent Smyth and Lynam Feron

5 and 4. Gerry was the star in this match with three birdies and a lot of pars. He was only a couple over par when the game ended on the 14th.

Kieran Lennon and John Poots were unlucky in their game against David White and Nigel Cochrane.

David, off a handicap of 28, played superbly, using his shots to good effect.

He sealed the match with a superb four nett 3 on the very difficult par four 17th hole.

Sean McGreevey and Dermot Magee were called in.

They were one up against Sean McVeigh and Cyril Morris after 14 holes.
