Hegarty winsat Prehen

SIXTEEN handicapper Dermot Hegarty was best of the day in the Sunday Society at Prehen scoring a very impressive 34 points in less than ideal conditions having to cope with driving rain and gale force winds.

Eamonn McCourt (8) followed up his third place last Thursday to take second place with 32 points. Brendan Sands (15) playing in the absolute worst of the prevailing conditions scored 31 points for third place and Graham Hepburn (4) had the best gross round of the day to take fourth spot on 30 points.

Clive Brolly (9) once again figured in the prizes with his 29 points and fifth place thanks to a count back.

While Robin McClay (17) with 33 points claimed first place, second was secured after a break of tie finish by Andy McFaul (8) who scored 31 points and Clive Brolly (13) also on 31 points was third.

While Ralph Hamilton (9) really went to town in the weekly Thursday Society competition at Prehen with a fantastic 36 points over the 13 holes played, that gave him a three point winning margin. He had no less than four birdies in his last six holes finishing off his performance with a two, three finish.

George Simms (17) took second place on 33 points courtesy of a tie break that relegated the Society’s hard working secretary Eamon McCourt (7) into third place. Forty two players took part in the last outing of 2012.

Meanwhile The seventh outing of the Foyle Sunday Society took place on Sunday with the good turnout of hardy souls enduring cold, wind and rain with a 40 points break of tie deciding the winner in favour of Ciaran O’Doherty (12) with Sean Rankin (20) finishing second Gary Jackson (11) played the best shot of the day after finding the fairway bunker on the par 5 fourteenth hole he splashed out of the sand and holed his third shot for an eagle and five points towards his 38 points and a third place finish.

The Juvenile Christmas stableford competition was won after a BOT finish by Jack Kennedy (23) who scored 41 points, second was David Knox (12) and Oran Harkin (21) with 40 points was third also after a BOT finish.

The Pitchers Restaurant Sponsored Spring League at Foyle gets underway on this Saturday with the Qualifying running until Sunday, March 24, 2013.

The Format for the Teams of Four 18 Hole Stableford Competition is best two scores to count at each hole and best 6 cards from 10 with 3/4 handicap allowance in the Qualifying and the top 8 teams entering the Match play Finals.
