Easy win for Senior Cowdy team against Spa

The first round match in the Senior Cowdy Cup between Banbridge and Spa fizzled out like a damp squib.

Jonathan Shannon’s team had won the away leg 18 – 14 and that gave them an enormous advantage going into the home leg last Wednesday.

Spa arrived with an under strength team and were always struggling against a very strong Banbridge team.

15 points were needed for victory and they were secured after the first four games.

Rory Madeley, Ken Stevenson, Connor Mulholland and Kieran Magennis all won their games and all picked up the maximum 4 points.

Mark McCoy, Jonathan Shannon, Jonathan Burns and Neil Clydesdale were all heading for top points when they were called in.

Banbridge will now play either Mannan Castle or Silverwood in round two.

It’s going to take a good team to prevent Banbridge winning the Senior Cowdy for the third year in a row.

Win for the Rossmore Cup team

The Banbridge Rossmore Cup team, captained by Mel Hylands, went to Ardglass last Sunday for the second leg of their second round match. They had won the home leg 4-nil, so they needed one win out of four to clinch the tie.

That came quickly as the top pair of David Cherry and Richard Coburn streaked to a 5 and 4 win. They were just unstoppable, sealing the victory.

P.J.Johnston and Brian Grimes were 1 down after 13 holes. John Crothers and Colin Kennedy were 4 down after 14 holes. Joe Glass and Sherwin Curran were 4 up after 12 holes. That was all irrelevant as the match was over.

Banbridge are into the quarter final. They will play the winner of the match between Tandragee & Concra Wood.
