Now Ardglass is a very beautiful course with superb views over St. Johns Point, Killough Harbour and the Mourne Mountains.

On a calm and sunny day it provides one of the most pleasant and challenging games of golf in the country.

But, on the other hand, if it is very cold, very windy and very wet, the course becomes extremely difficult.

That’s the way it was last Monday and the veteran Banbridge players were struggling throughout.

Not one of the eight players scored in the 30’s, never mind the 40’s.

No one can recall that ever happening before.

Seamus McGrath and Sydney Pepper were the two top scorers with 28 points each.

The other two counting scores came from P.J. Johnston and Bobby Geddis who had 26 points each.

That gave Banbridge a team total of 108 points, a mere 32 points short of their target total of 140 points (4 x 35 points).

Banbridge were in fifth place prior to the Ardglass round.

They will certainly slip down several places.

The other four players on the Banbridge team were Brian Mulholland, Tom Fee. Dougie Stevenson (captain) and Aidan Doran.

The next round of the MUSA will be played at Killymoon Golf Club in Cookstown. Let’s hope that the weather is a little kinder.
