Big hitting PJ on top at Prehen

P J McGee (13) is probably the biggest hitter at City of Derry and on Saturday he found his short game as well to take the top place in the City of Derry Building Society sponsored Open.

A steady 18 points on the front nine was the springboard for a superb 23 points on the back nine and a tie breaking win from Eugene Hillick (22), his 41 points coming from nines of 20 and 21 points respectively.

Third place went to Colin Jeffrey (6) on 40 points courtesy of a brilliant level par back nine for 22 points giving him the decision on a count back. Jayson McIntyre (3) was the best of the low men with 35 gross points.

No play was possible on Thursday last due to inclement weather but weekly Opens continue throughout the season. Speaking of Opens next Saturday Prehen will stage the Cecil Thompson (Plumbing) competition and visitors are most welcome. Phone 02871311496 or online at www.cityofderrygolfclub.com.

Friday Nights Mixed Foursomes at Prehen continue every week and all members are welcome, you don’t even need a partner, we’ll provide one. Friday’s event was won by Cathy Jackson and Jack McFarland and they were followed home by the husband and wife pairing of John and Mary O’Doherty.
