Bann B&D team fight back to bag a great result at the coast

This was always going to a severe test, as Cairndhu are one of the up and coming teams at the present time.

Connor was hoping to get at least two matches out of the seven played. Three wins would be a truly fantastic result.

The Cairndhu men all started very well and, at the halfway stage, some of their supporters were talking about the prospect pf a 7-0 whitewash. But golf games are played over 18 holes and anything can happen.

Rory Madeley played a blinder in the leading role and he won one up. That was a bit of a shock to the home supporters and immediately put paid to their hopes of a 7-0 scoreline.

Jonathan Ward, despite his best efforts, lost three and two.

Luke Woods played some fine golf but he too lost, by four and three.

Colin Wilton’s opponent was in top form and he beat Colin four and three.

Connor Doran was hit by a barrage of birdies and he lost by four and three.

It wasn’t looking too good for Banbridge at this stage. They were 4-1 down and only two more games to come in.

The great Rory Leonard was three down after nine holes and his unbeaten record looked in jeopardy.

However, all the Bann fans know that Rory is an amazing match player and, amid tremendous excitement, he fought back to win one up.

The final game was equally exciting. Stephan Greenberg was playing Cairndhu’s top player, Ryan McKinstry. Stephan played superbly to win by two and one.

The score, after the first leg, is 4-3 in favour of Cairndhu, a fantastic result for Bann and gives them a great chance to make it to the semi-finals.

The second leg will be played this Friday at Banbridge at 4.30pm. It is sure to be a titanic struggle but the Banbridge team really fancy their chances of progressing.
