Anne Marie pips Rita by one shot to win the Lady President’s Cup

Anne Marie Canavan won one of the biggest prizes in the ladies’ season at Banbridge GC last week.

She carded a fantastic 39 points to come out on top on Glennis Smyth’s Lady President’s Day to cap an excellent week of competitions to play for her prizes.

Poor weather in the middle of the day did not deter the ladies in their endeavour to win one of those.

Nearest to the Pin prize went to Sharon Allen while Melissa Whan hit the Longest Drive.

The President’s Putting Prize went to Marianne Nelson and the Ladies Putting Prize went to Marlene Nelson.

The Pink Ladies Prize went to Maeve Fee while the Past President’s Prize was won by Teresa McConville with 34 points and the Committee Prize was won with 35 points by Jane Doyle.

The front and back nines were won respectively by Jacinta Rooney with 21 points and Denise Nelson with 20 points.

The Section Prizes went to Mary Longmore (34 points), Liz Armstrong (37 points) and Eileen Pepper with (35 points).

Best Gross went to Helen Cocks with 21 gross points. Rita Downey played excellent golf and on any other day her 38 points would have won the Cup but one lady played outstanding golf to pip Rita by one shot as the President’s Prize and Cup went to Anne Marie Canavan.

The Juvenile Competition winners were Gary McConville (white blocks), Connor Woods (yellow blocks), Megan Whan (red blocks) and Sarah Magenns (junior girls).

The Men’s 14 Hole Competition was won by Merton McDowell and the runner up was P J Johnston. Eugene Weir won the best gross and appropriately, the Lady President’s son Walter took the visitors’ prize.
