A goalless night for Rathfriland U9s

Rathfriland U9s 0

Windmill Stars 0

ON Tuesday evening Rathfriland U9s took on Windmill Stars in the first game of the evening.

Rathfriland started very brightly and put Windmill under pressure right from the word go. This pressure nearly paid off with Ethan Copes shooting from distance hitting the post.

Windmill were a well organised team and slowly came back into it though Adam Loughlin in nets never looked like getting beat. Both teams battled hard with the game ending in a goalless draw which was a fair result.

Lisdrum 0

In the second game of the night Rathfriland took on Lisdrum. This game was similar in nature to the first game with both teams battling hard.

Rathfriland were unlucky once again not to take the lead when Adam Loughlin hit the post. Lisdrum created a couple of half chances but never troubled Copes in nets. Again this game ended in a goalless draw which was a fair result.

With their confidence up Rathfriland started well and put Camlough under pressure with the midfield driving forward. Ethan Copes was superb running at the Camlough defence but was unlucky never to get the opportunity of a clear cut chance.

At half time the game remained goalless with Rathfriland making a real game of it. In the second half Camlough came out strong and within minutes the Camlough centre forward seemed destined to score but Oren Shimmons pulled off a superb save to keep Camlough out.

Midway through the second half Rathfriland started to tire and eventually the Camlough pressure took its toll when they took the lead. Camlough then scored another two in quick succession to go three up.

However, Rathfriland did not let their heads drop as they came back at Camlough and were unlucky not to get back into the game when they hit the post through Ethan Copes and had two other good chances.

This was another great performance from Rathfriland and although they lost the points in this game they can take great heart and pride in their performance.

A big thank you must go to the parents who travelled over to give their support.
