WORK IN PROGRESS

BANBRIDGE Town manager Ronnie Haughey has continued the rebuilding process at the club by adding to his backroom staff.

Former Dromore Amateurs boss Barry Taylor has become the new Reserve Team manager while Ian Campbell is the new First Team Coach.

The appointments are seen as being to the benefit of the club’s long-term future.

“We are looking much more organised than the club has done in previous years,” said Haughey.

“As anyone in football will tell you your team on the park is only as good as your team off the park and I believe we have made some great additions.”

While the blows of losing Ryan Moffatt and Chris Kingsberry are still being felt by the Town they have been boosted by the loyality of the core of last season’s squad.

“There were players in that squad who were made offers by the likes of Loughgall and Newry but they turned them down to stay with us and for that we are very grateful.

“Take Conor Downey for example - he was made an offer to go to Newry, a top Championship 1 club, but he wanted to stay at Crystal Park.

“The reward for some of those boys will come when top Irish League clubs come in and pick them up - and some of them are good enough to make that step.”

Meanwhile Haughey has added Seapatrick’s Darren McGrath to his panel for the season, a player he describes as being “a quality Championship player.”

- Banbridge Town lost the Bob Larmour Memorial Cup match to Cliftonville Olympic 4-1 on Saturday, Darren McGrath scoring the locals’ only goal of the game.

Michael Press’ Olympic side, under pressure to deliver after six previous successes in the annual contest, maintained the Reds’ grip on the trophy thanks to a hat-trick from Johnny McMurray and a single strike from Johnny Scannell.
