Winning streak continues for Bann Rangers

Camlough Rovers 2

Banbridge Rangers 3

What a catalyst one victory can be, 11 days ago Banbridge Rangers were without a win in months and then produce four wins out of four games in just over a week to guarantee at least a ninth place finish in Intermediate A.

The ‘Gers, as per usual got off to a high tempo start and closed down a strong Camlough side all over the pitch and forced them into several mistakes.

In the eighth minute a well worked free kick from McIlroy saw Chambers feed Cousins and he blasted past Camlough keeper Joe Goodwill from close range.

A free kick on the opposite side on 14 minutes saw towering defender Chris Chambers curl in a second goal from just under thirty yards out from goal.

Camlough responded well and brought a goal back in the 22nd minute when their midfielder stroked in a rebound after Crawford had made an initial fine stop.

Just after the half hour mark saw Rovers draw level when Monaghan stretched clear of the defence and squared unselfishly for McVerry to tap in.

Camlough were very much in the driving seat in the remainder of the half and were prevented from going in front due to some resolute defending and some superb saves from Davy Crawford including one from a Monaghan overhead kick.

The second half was played at a slightly slower tempo but didn’t have any lack of committment as players from both teams put in crunching tackles.

With just over fifteen minutes to go Dean Gordon was brought onto left midfield and scored the winning goal after just several minutes on the field.

A flick on by impressive target man Jason Gourley saw Gordon pick the ball up on the left hand side of the box and he checked inside the full back before drilling through the legs of Seamus Kane and into the far bottom corner to the delight of the travelling support.

Despite a late surge from Camlough which included Declan Monaghan hitting the side netting when clear on goal from an acute angle, the ‘Gers managed to hang on for three more deserved points.

The team performance was superb and on an individual basis Ryan Gregg excelled, Jonny Porter threw himself into everything but man of the match by a long way was right back Jason Adamson.

The ‘Gers final game of the season takes place away to Lisanally Rangers today (Tuesday) with kick off at 7pm and the End of Season Awards dinner takes place this Friday evening.
