‘We owe them one - big time’ roars Town boss

Glebe Rangers visit Crystal Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2pm) after having inflicted Town’s most embarrasing result of the season back in November.

Ryan Watson’s men travelled north that day hoping to come back with a win but instead were sent packing with a mortifying 4-0 defeat.

This weekend, Town are determined to make sure that Glebe are the ones heading back up the road with their tails between their legs.

“It’s another game that we are hoping to get maximum points from,” said boss Watson.

“We’re really looking forward to getting out there. Yes, because of the situation we’re in but also because of what happened up there. We didn’t perform at all and the wound is still very raw. We’ve got to put that one to bed because we owe them one big time.

“It’s a big motivation for the players as well as trying to go another step in the right direction.

“We got a good draw to steady things against Ballymoney and then got the win on Saturday so we go in to this game with a bit more confidence now.”

A win would lift Town above their opponents in the league table and would set them up to close the gap to the top nine sides in Championship Two.

“We’re not really looking too far ahead,” said Watson.

“We’re just looking at things week to week and trying to get more points on the board as soon as possible so we can start climbing the table. We can’t look any further than the next game because if we take our eye off the ball, things can turn very quickly.”

Watson’s selection problems certainly aren’t getting any easier. Town go into the game without the injured James Wilson while Steven O’Neill is off back to America and Mark Teggart is suspended for the next two games.

“Mark was very impressive on Saturday, particularly in the second half,” said the boss.

“We’ll miss him over the next couple of weeks but then we have David Gray to come back in. He’s a player we have big hopes for and a huge amount of faith in.

“All the rest of the players that played on Saturday did enough to keep their places.”

And although Watson looks likely to reward the team with starts again this weekend, Conor Downey is back in training and ready to seize any chance to get back into the starting line-up.
