U9s put eleven past Damolly

ON Saturday Rathfriland U9s went up against Damolly in the IFA Games Development Centre which is held in Newry. Rathfriland came out on top with a well deserved 11-1 victory.

Rathfriland started well with two early goals from Shane Haughey. From this point Rathfriland were in total control of the game and they produced some great passing movements which created goal scoring chances for Aaron Baxter and Alex McKee to grab another two goals each for the season.

Christopher McConville, Ross Chambers and Reuben Toal marshalled the Damolly front line and never gave them a chance to score in the first two periods of play.

Aaron Trimble got his name on the goal scoring sheet with another fine strike to make it 7-0.

Rathfriland continued to put the Damolly goal under pressure with long range efforts from Christopher McConville and Reuben Toal going narrowly wide. Aaron Baxter, who was Rathfriland’s captain, produced a great performance as he put in tackle after tackle to ensure Damolly were not going to get back into the game.

Shane Haughey continued to show his class in the middle of the park and went on to score a further three goals. Shane has now scored 15 goals in four games so far this season, which is a fantastic achievement.

Jack McGinn came out of goals in the last period and scored the best goal of the game with a great volley into the top corner of the Damolly goal.

This was a great team performance from Rathfriland; they produced some great passing movements throughout the game and were rewarded with an impressive 11-1 score line.

Man of the match for Rathfriland was Aaron Baxter who had a fantastic performance in midfield.
