U9s continue to grow in confidence

ON Saturday Rathfriland’s opponents were a very strong Damolly team. Rathfriland got off to a great start with Shane Haughey scoring a hat-trick in the first period to give them an early lead.

Adam Trimble, Ross Chambers and Christopher McConville formed a great partnership at the back to ensure Damolly forward line where not given a chance to score.

In the second period Steven McElroy, making his first appearance of the season at the Games Development Centre didn’t take long to get his name on the score sheet, as he scored his first hat-trick of the season - welcome back Steven.

Aaron Baxter and Eoghan Travers put in great performances in midfield as they continue to show their potential as stars of the future.

The flying Alex McKee produced run after run and tortured the Damolly defence throughout the game and was rewarded with two great goals.

In the third period Shane Haughey went on to grab his 4th goal of the game after a great run by Jack McGinn down the right flank. Adam Trimble who was captain for the day and Man of the Match rounded off his performance with a great long range shot that hit the Damolly net.

The final goal came from a great left footed volley from Christopher McConville to open his goal scoring account for the season. Damolly put up a great fight and were rewarded with a conciliation goal late on.

This was another great performance from Rathfriland as they continue to grow in confidence and develop their skills at the IFA Games Development Centre in Newry.
