U9s continue to make progress

The 10am start seemed to help Dromore as they quickly found their feet against the more experienced Sunnyside third team.

Early pressure and territorial advantage soon told as Dromore took the lead five minutes into the fixture. The dynamic Alex Scott broke down the Sunnyside defence as they failed to clear deep in their own half, the ball broke quickly to Ryan Hamilton, who with a deft first touch manoeuvred the ball allowing himself space to shoot, which he did with great power and accuracy beating the helpless Sunnyside keeper at his near post.

After the restart the pattern of the tie continued as Dromore were the aggressors. Long twice went close before Hamilton was on hand to double his tally and Dromore’s lead on the stroke of half time. Again Sunnyside’s defensive frailties were evident as a clearance landed at the feet of Hamilton, who coolly swept the ball into the net.

A galvanised Sunnyside team came out in the second period, scoring immediately after the kick off.

After sustained pressure and a few more marvellous saves from Soye, pressure finally told as Sunnyside levelled the score at 2-2.

After a quick break Neasham’s boy’s returned to the pitch full of confidence to play against a strong St Mary’s side. The fixture was much more one sided as the experienced St Mary’s side took control of the match early on.

Pressure soon told as St Mary’s took the lead, which they soon doubled just before half time.

St Mary’s scored again and ran out 3-0 winners but there was a marked improvement in the Dromore side’s performance.
