U17s keep up unbeaten run ahead of top of the table clash

League leaders Dromore made the short trip to an unexpectedly warm and sunny Derrylecka playing fields on Saturday morning keen to retain their unbeaten start to the season.

Slowly but surely Dromore started to wrest control with midfielders Aaron McConville and Andy Compton gaining the upper hand, the front line trio giving the home defence a tempestuous time with their constant probing.

Brian Lavery - who must be knocking on the door of leading goalscorer in the league – opened his account after 25 minutes, blasting home a loose ball from 12 yards out. This gave further momentum to a busy Dromore side who created more opportunities resulting in a 2-0 lead at the break after Lavery doubled his tally with another rasping drive from 15 yards.

The second half started in much the same way but was marred somewhat by a succession of free kicks. Amongst this, Ben Martin added a third with a good finish. As the home side grew frustrated Dromore reacted at times and the game was stifled as tempers frayed.

Ashgrove capitalised and drew a goal back as the locals’ concentration suffered. This gave the Amateurs the shake they needed and Dromore started to play football again. A good deal of pressure thereafter resulted in Lavery completing his hat-trick with a good finish from inside the penalty box leaving the final score at a good 4-1 away win for Dromore.

Man of the Match with a superb performance was the excellent Lavery who has clearly found his shooting boots this season.

Dromore now look forward to a trip to second-placed Killen Rangers this coming Saturday for what’s sure to be a thrilling top-of-the-table clash.
