U15s can learn a lot from experience against international ladies side

Northern Ireland Ladies 3

Moneyslane U15s 1

SLANE’S U15s were invited down to Belfast on Saturday past to play against the Northern Ireland Ladies team.

Seven of this Ladies team were senior internationals, three were U19s and one was an under 17 international. This was a great experience for the young Slane team.

The locals started the game on the front foot and could have had a goal in the first minute only for the keeper to save well from Curtis Gibson.

The Slane lads were not overawed by the occasion and they were playing some great football.

William Maxwell in goals only had one save to make in the first half and what a save it was. He got down low to push the ball past the post with his fingertips. The ladies team manager, Alfie Wylie, was very impressed and even applauded him.

The defence of Keith McGuigan, Adam Gibson, Jordan Clydesdale and Andrew Carlisle were not letting anything past them. The midfield of Matthew Smyth, Matthew Ervine, Kyle Murray and Kurtis Bain were running the show and supplying some great balls to the strikers Curtis Gibson and Steven Adair.

The NI ladies had some good chances of their own in the first half but the young lads held their own. Slane came in at half time with a well deserved lead.

The second half started with the ladies on the attack and had a couple of chances that went just wide or over the top.

Slane had a couple of chances themselves but they never came to anything. Then Slane got caught with some great wing play and the NI Ladies found the back of the net to equalise.

The ladies were now putting some pressure on the lads and their experience told. In a 10 minute spell they scored two more goals to put them 3-1 up.

Credit to the lads as they never gave up. They kept on attacking but the ladies’ defence held firm.
