U14s get up and running with a win

Match cancellations for both teams resulted in a rearrangement of fixtures and an immediate opportunity for Dromore to rectify their poor performance in the earlier fixture - an opportunity they were not to pass up.

However – as in the previous week when Dromore took an early lead only to lose the match – Seagoe opened the scoring with a soft goal in the first few minutes which seemed to trickle into the net behind the back of the stranded Dromore keeper.

Dromore however did not let their heads drop and showed a determination that had been sadly missing in their first two games. Dromore gradually gained control of the match and Jack Fullerton - who had a very impressive game at left back - hit the Seagoe crossbar on 11 minutes.

Jason Jakes then levelled the scores with a great strike which he hit low and to the right of the keeper only four minutes later.

Dromore continued to push and Jake Davison scored the goal of the game and possibly the season after 20 minutes when he smashed an unstoppable shot over the keepers head from the right side of the pitch when still standing well outside the opposition’s penalty area.

It was obvious that the Dromore lads had been stung by the previous weeks result and they went further ahead when Jason Jakes scored his second of the match. Having put the ball through the legs of the onrushing Seagoe defender, he was through one on one with the Seagoe keeper whom he rounded to place the ball in the back of the net.

Although Seagoe rarely threatened in the first half, there was still time left for a Seagoe striker to unleash a vicious shot in the last minute which Jamie Hanna in the Dromore net saved superbly, pushing it round the upright for a corner.

The second half saw no more scoring but a more concerted push by Seagoe to get back into the game. The most pleasing thing from a Dromore point of view was that every Seagoe attack was met with a strong defensive performance with each and every Dromore player working hard for their team mates. Every time a Seagoe player got past a Dromore player with the ball, another Dromore player was right there to win it straight back.

A thoroughly impressive team performance Dromore played with an urgency, determination and workrate which – if matched throughout the remainder of the season – should result in an enjoyable season ahead.
