Town on top over Reserves in Banbridge derby

THE Banbridge derby in the MUFL Reserve Championship was played at Cheney Park on Friday night past with the Town coming out on top and securing three vital league points.

Both teams were under different managers from last season where Rangers came out on top in both games but this years opening encounter was a much more evenly contested affair.

Chances were few and far between in a scrappy game from both teams but the Town struck first near the half time interval with Rangers equalising through Andy McLarty who turned well on the half volley inside the area after being set up by Josh Crossett.

Banbridge Town regained the lead on 65 minutes from a free kick on the edge of the area which was diverted past Parkes by an outstretched leg.

Town took control within minutes scoring a third goal from open play with Rangers being reduced to 10 men before the end off the game with Chambers seeing straight red followed by Andy Mallen who received a second caution several minutes before the end.

The overall performance from Banbridge Rangers was below par with very few chances being created and a growing frustration with the referees performance led to indiscipline which put an end to any chance of a comeback late in the game.
